In the mornings, the boy digs a hole in the sand of the beach. Before midday, he patiently and promptly starts to carry water from the sea to the hole in his very tiny bucket. Towards sunset, when his mother insists on their leaving, he says goodbye to the early moon and promises it to empty the ocean one day. Then, water filters through the bottom of the hole and goes slowly back to the sea so - before nightfall - the tide goes up again.
